This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The use of manipulatives is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using the workshop model in math, students come to the mat with different manipulatives to practice guided and record modeled strategies. using these allows me to see exactly what they're doing, as well as giving them an easy place to showcase and share their work. When something goes wrong, students know to quietly leave the mat for a different manipulative or last option, pencil and paper. Although they are very good at this, it is a distraction for many of my students who have trouble concentrating and miss important instruction either from me or from other students. By having enough manipulatives, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning!
By donating to our project, you will not only help improve and increase students' attention and focus, but ultimately help increase their academic performance.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether or not their materials will work. Also, in this tech literate world, any interaction with up-to-date manipulatives will increase your literacy and your desire to learn and use math!
