This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are pre-kindergarten through fifth graders who are full of energy. They visit the library once per week for a scheduled special. In addition, teachers send students to the library to complete a task or come for a full class activity. Some also come during recess for fun or to mentor younger students. The students have adapted to the challenges thrown at them this past year and are not only surviving but thriving in this very different environment. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. They love reading diverse books, participating in maker space activities and STEM challenges, and are very curious. There are over 1,400 students in our school! I have a large population of English Language Learners. They are eager to learn and enjoy every minute of it. My students are both general and special education students. They are all amazing kids!
My students participate in many Makerspace activities during library time as well as during before-school enrichment, many of which are messy!
There are always paper cuttings, glitter, and various other materials on the floor which are hard to clean up, we have been using a dust buster but it is just not cutting it and a vacuum would make our space much cleaner at all times.
We learned the Chinese tradition of cleaning for the Lunar New Year and would like to sweep out our bad luck and usher in fortune and prosperity not just in December, but every day!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
