We Before Me: Developing Team Players

Help me give my students a chance to be more complete volleyball players and, more importantly, teammates by helping fund their camp costs to attend a three-day summer team camp.

My Students

We are a small rural school with limited funding for many of the "extras" larger schools can provide. In fact, our sports programs are independently funded by local donations and team fundraisers. Our volleyball program is young and inexperienced, yet eager and hard-working. We have 30 girls playing across 3 teams ranging in age from 12-17. Our girls are excited about improving their skills to be competitive in our region. They are very athletic and competitive and have so much potential to be great volleyball players if they get the proper training now. While the love for the game is there, many of our girls cannot afford the cost of camp to develop their skills and teamwork.

Last year, with help from DonorsChoose, we were able to significantly curb the cost of camp for ALL of our volleyball players and therefore build their confidence in a game they love.

My Project

The players in the volleyball program at BEHS will have the opportunity to develop skills and cultivate teamwork by attending the team volleyball camp at Clemson University. We are an up-and-coming program and recognize our need to provide experiences beyond the small confines of our community. A huge part of volleyball is learning to move together on the court with ease and synergy. A team camp experience would allow us to get all our kinks worked out before the season begins so we can hit the ground running.

The chance to grow as players at team camp while bonding with friends and teammates is an opportunity to build life skills beyond the playing court.

Attending Clemson University's Volleyball Camp will be the springboard to begin our season on a positive note by putting "we before me."
