We Art to Be in Pictures

My students need a multitude of art supplies in order to foster their creative expression.

My Students

Art should not be a "cookie cutter" subject with twenty something identical projects hanging on a wall. Art is more than crayons, scissors, glue, and color sheets. It's students expressing their creativity.

I teach at a school in the "Heart of Cajun Country." We teach a diverse population of students and are a host school for students who reside at local shelters.

Even though we receive Title I funding, that funding is strictly reserved for math and reading improvement. Art funding falls at the bottom of the priority list.

My Project

I want my first graders to have many opportunities to express themselves through art. I want them to be able to show their creative expression through different art mediums. With the funding of this proposal, paint, paper, and collage materials will assist me in helping my students have this experience. They will be able to paint pictures and make collages for our "homemade" books that we put in our classroom "Book Nook." These materials will also assist me in helping one of my autistic students express himself more easily since he is at times non-verbal.

By funding this proposal, you will grant us the opportunity to have these materials in our classroom and we will be able to show that individuality is across the curriculum not just in our academic work.

We will be able to showcase our art by incorporating it throughout our lessons.
