My Students
Our school is a unique urban education center that has a special flavor and appeal in that it is an academic and art center. Students here are a mix of 9th-12th graders who are very talented in the arts. Their artistic talents range from music and dance to creative writing and theater technology.
Most students come from very impoverished backgrounds; in fact, our school provides all students free school breakfast and lunch.
As a result of poverty, these students often have limited educational resources and experiences with nature and the world outside of our city.
My Project
My virtual science classroom for the 2020-21 school year has been challenging, but continues to improve with each day. Students adapted to changes and continued to learn despite all the setbacks that this pandemic has brought. As we all continue to adjust to our new learning environment, our district faces further challenges as we switch to a hybrid model of learning that combines virtual student learning with in-person simultaneously. I feel well prepared to meet this challenge head-on with the exception of one factor, will I be able to communicate effectively with my remote student while I teach in person. This has been a problem I have seen in other hybrid classroom settings as students have difficulty hearing and communicating with the teacher as they move around the classroom. Having a Bluetooth microphone and earpiece would provide the link I would need to effectively communicate with the students in a remote setting when I am away from my computer and addressing the needs of the students who are in-person.
Using a Bluetooth microphone/earpiece will provide a vital link in a hybrid classroom setting, further ensuring that remote students have equal access to learning.
My goal to provide the most equitable learning opportunity despite the challenges we all face. Having a Bluetooth microphone/earpiece will help to meet those challenges much easier.
