My Project
U.S. history is a rich, diverse story filled with immigrants who, sometimes separately and at times working together, utilized this great framework we have, our Constitution, to build a new life in the United States.
Textbooks don't often adequately tell that rich story.
Literacy and historical inquiry are enriched by reading many texts. In my classroom, we read a diverse set of texts. I hope to make them better readers by making them read more, critically, and often.
My classroom reflects the history of the United States-diverse, rich, from all abilities and social classes, and we come from places all over the world. We live in a university town. 11% of our students are second language learners.
We are a high-needs school-52% below the poverty line. While some have traveled the world, some have never had the opportunity to travel.
These books will give my students a richer, fuller U.S. History narrative that looks more like all of us-what U.S. History actually is.
