My Students
So, do you feel attracted or repelled by science? My students would love to find out when we study our magnet unit each year!
My students come from a rural area that sees more fields and farms than taxis and tall buildings!
Our kids learn best when the teaching is "hands-on." In science, that's almost an essential! With budget cuts and an aging supply of resources, it's getting to the time where we need to replace the "worn out" or "missing."
My Project
When we learn about magnets, most of the materials come from the hardware store. In other words, most of our materials are either round magnets or "donut" shaped. While that is great when you are studying about "attract" and "repel", it's not so easy to find the poles on a round magnet! We have one bar magnet for our entire classroom. While we have a few "bag of tricks" with our magnets, we are also lacking horseshoe magnets, which seem to be a staple of the magnet world!
Students learn best by experimentation.
It would be fantastic if my students could learn about the poles of a magnet in their own hands, and not up on a screen or projector! Please help us out by donating so we can supply our students with bar magnets and horseshoe magnets! You can make the magic "real" in our room!
