Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are diverse learners that struggle with early reading skills. They require supplemental books to build their reading confidence and help foster a love for reading. By securing these resources, the students will gain confidence in their independent reading skills.
The students are diverse learners in grades K-2.
They struggle to demonstrate grade level reading abilities. The students are in need of additional resources to build their confidence in reading, but also give them the opportunity to acquire skills to improve their ability to read. Our schools is located in the City of Chicago and resources for additional materials have been cut. We face additional cuts in the coming months. Our students have maintained focus and willingness to learn despite these cuts. With limited resources, many times our diverse learners are left without additional supplemental resources that are necessary for their individualized success. They require additional support outside of the general education curriculum that provide them opportunities to grow based on individual progress. These resources would benefit the students and provide the essential opportunities for advancing their reading skills.
My Project
The books and alphabet will support small group instruction as well as one on one individualized support for all of the students. These materials will be aligned to Common Core goals and each student's individualized education plan. Not only will each students be able to apply literacy strategies learned through instruction, but they will also have a variety of books to build their confidence in reading. Students will receive one on one support as they begin to read these materials. As they build their confidence these books will transition into center activities as well as resources for independent reading. There are so many ways these materials can be used and implemented for student success. Each set of books focuses on a specific skill set and allows the readers to slowly progress at their own pace. These are the perfect supplemental reading materials when grade level work tends to be an overwhelming task for the diverse learners.
Every child deserves a chance to be successful.
With these materials the students will have opportunities to show progress and build confidence in their reading. These books will allow them to apply the foundational phonics skills they have learned. As their reading fluency builds, they will also begin to build on their comprehension skills. These materials are essential to building the foundation needed for success and confidence in reading.
