it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In Third Grade, our day is busy with math, language arts, English-language development And when we have time, we try to do science. Science is the favorite subject of many students, and such an important skill. However, we have minimal resources, and are not able to really cover the science standards. STEM projects address the standards, and go beyond. STEM develops a set of thinking, reasoning, teamwork, investigative, and creative skills that students can use in all areas of their lives. STEM isn’t a standalone class—it’s a way to intentionally incorporate different subjects across an existing curriculum. We are a Title I, low-performing school with a majority of English Language Learners.
I have a wonderful group of 25 third-graders. They are excited, energetic, and enthusiastic. I know that bringing STEM into the classroom will give them the opportunity to truly embrace Science, Technology, Engineering and Math in a whole new way!
My Project
Having access to STEM project ideas, and an iPad to record the projects, will give my students the opportunity to experience STEM in the classroom, and open up a whole new world for them. The 2 books are filled with excellent, exciting, age-appropriate experiments and projects that we will be able to do in the classroom. The iPad will allow them to film the projects, and record the data. My students will be able to create a video science journal, which will give them an opportunity to view, and review what they have learned. STEM is a movement to develop the deep mathematical and scientific underpinnings students need to be competitive in the 21st-century workforce, and I would really like to offer this to my students!
