I am so excited to once again be the teacher/advisor of our school's digital photography club. In this club, selected 4th and 5th-grade students will learn how to take and edit photographs on an iPad. During our sessions, they will photograph landscapes, people, and objects in and around the school. They will then learn digital editing skills. The culmination of working with digital photography, and learnign editing, cropping, color balance, and other skills will allow students to create a tangible item that they will shop for online when browsing through the Shutterfly website. They will personalize the item with the photograph that they have taken and edited. This will further enhance their skills, as they must make edits, upload, choose rotation, ratio and text, in order to create a completed final project.
Their choice may be to create a mouse pad, but there are many other items, such as pillows, calendars, puzzles, or mugs that they may choose from to create.
In the past, this has always been an exciting artistic and educational experience for my club participants, and I know my current students will love it just as much! In addition to being creative and having fun, they will be required to shop online, working in their assigned budget, to find and create an item they can afford, based on their allotted amount. If the website has a saIe price or promo code, they will also learn how to apply that, which will change their budget, and therefor the item they can afford.
I have included two digital photography books for them to further explore the possibilities of photography as either a hobby or a career.
