Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! I teach art in a low-income district where most of my students receive either free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students have a limited foundation to the arts and have not been exposed to many artists, styles, art fundamentals. When they come to my class, they are funneling in from three different schools, with separate curricula.

I infuse them with a love for the arts by focusing on art as a form of communication between the artist and the audience, while encouraging them to find their voice.

We spend time developing their skills and techniques in order to give them confidence in using art as a vehicle for expression. My students love to question and search for answers. They are motivated and absorb information, and they continuously look for the connections between themselves and the world around them.

My Project

Returning to learn have been an adventure. Students are now back in the classrooms, acclimating back into school. They are excited about in person learning and reconnecting with their friends.

My students are incredible.

Even though this past year was difficult,, they are energized, motivated and excited to be back in the school building! They are enjoying their friends, teachers and classrooms, appreciating every moment. Many of our families suffered tremendous financial setbacks and personal losses. As we begin this school year, we integrate Social Emotional Learning into our school and curriculum to support our students in every way possible. We introduced the PAWS Program as part of our SEL initiative to help create a positive school climate and culture for all students. PAWS is an acronym for be Prepared, Act responsibly, Work hard and Show respect. The PAWS charms, bracelets, lanyards and jewelry making tools will be given to each student to remind them to be self aware and make good choices so they can be successful. At the end of each week, students can choose snacks from the bin as well.

Please help me give my students these supplies to help boost our program.
