My Project
My third grade students are very curious about the real world and how things work. Aware of "Sampson Bucks" and the class bank I organized for my previous students, they had so many questions about how adults get money, pay bills...just survived. During this discussion, I asked them if they would be interested in setting up a class banking system and live like a little society, they were very excited, to say the least. Just like the previous year, the class bank has been successful and students are excited for their financial literacy journey.
Students have weekly class jobs that allows them to earn money to be spent in our class store.
They also use the money to pay rent (desk fee), pay for minor class infractions (speeding ticket for running in the class), and are also able to purchase special things like extra computer time. Students also track their expenses and meet with me weekly to make sure our balances match. Since starting, I've been stocking our class store out of pocket and need some assistance in order to keep it going. These items on the list were all requested by the students. They love snacks and school supplies. These items will last us through the majority of the year as students will earn a weekly shopping opportunity in the class store.
