We Are Learning to Crochet!

Help me give my students yarn to create projects as they learn to crochet.

My Project

My students attend a public Pre-K through 8th grade Montessori school in Cleveland, Ohio. Our school is comprised of students from all over our city, which has one of the highest poverty rates in the nation. Our Montessori students follow a child-centered approach to develop each child physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Students learn in multi-age classrooms and remain with the same teacher for several years. My classroom is a STEAM Lab, where each student spends at least 8 weeks using technology and other building materials to create.

Over 450 students use our STEAM Lab and consume lab materials.

At the end of last school year they began to be obsessed with learning to crochet. We have been receiving a few yarn donations, but not anywhere near enough to keep up with demand. I found a project where students can create ferns while learning to crochet. They will work in teams to each crochet a frond of the fern and then create a crocheted pot to put it in. The prototypes we have made look amazing and I've ordered 200 crochet hooks through Temu. Now we need yarn. Lots, and lots of yarn to create the pots and plants as they master the skill of crochet, and polyfill to stuff the pots they create.
