My Project
Hi there! We are in need of a ceramic kiln for students to experience the value of 3D art mediums! We are creating a ceramic studio for our primary school children to have the clay space to problem solve and make creative choices as they develop self-confidence in working with clay and glazes. Research has been found to demonstrate that children when exposed to specific experiences in clay can help develop their small motor skills, muscle development, craft, and technical skills, and be able to articulate through kinesthetic art mediums their solutions for expression! These are all skills that are not only valid in the art studio but will overflow into the primary classroom as they develop drawing, writing, and craftmanship over the course of their lives.
The goals for this project are to use this kiln and repurpose an older outdated classroom- transitioning it 100% to a clay studio.
The reality in the classroom is that COVID-19 changed how we teach and how children learn. For years, art rooms and spaces have been without kilns, as they were popular in the 70's-90's. It's time for a revival to reach students who are used to computers and technical equipment that put learning at their fingertips. My students are intelligent, knowledgeable with technology, in their formative art years, and primed to learn how they can use their physical hands in construction from just 2D projects to 3D solutions. They are ready. We just need your help!
