My students are an amazing group of third graders. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E. math and science. Our school is a Kindergarten through eighth grade school located in rural Northern California. It houses 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys and deer.
We have an athletic culture at our school.
We have received top awards in cross-country, track, skiing and wrestling. We have an extensive P.E. and intramural s program. The materials requested in this grant to enhance the successful athletic program that are already in place.
My Project
I am requesting 14 running shirts for our Girls Running Club. This club was started this year to guide girls 4-8th grade on a program to prepare for a 10K run in May. Each week, teachers, parents and students have been meeting after school to run drills, work on speed and endurance.
To show our team spirit, I would like to provide a pink running shirt for each girl who participates in the culminating activity, a 10K run that is a community event held in May.
At the end of our two month program, the girls involved will have worked on building teamwork and commitment skills. They will also build self-confidence, self-discipline and determination. They will be succeeding at something they never thought they could mange to do.
