My Students

My pre-K scholars are amazing! They are the only full day class in our school. They are eager to learn and love being in school. Our school is very diverse and takes pride in welcoming and engaging all scholars and families. We are committed to creating a school where kids feel safe, loved, and motivated.

As a school, we take pride in creating an environment where we celebrate diversity, discuss and study racial equity, and "inspire all scholars to reach high levels of social and academic achievement, and to become future leaders through a collaborative system of support" (our school's mission statement).

My Project

In Pre-K my scholars are Emergent Readers. We are practicing all of the skills needed to be readers. During our small group instruction, I use emergent reader books to help my scholars learn to use pictures as clues, to point to each word, and identify the difference between letters and words.

Having new, emergent reader books will allow my scholars to have the chance to practice early reading skills everyday independently and in small groups.

The vocabulary cards will not only help scholars to build vocabulary, they will also help by practicing words that start with the same sound.

The new book shelf and bins will help us to organize our books. It will be easy for my scholars to find books at their level because they can go right to the cart. The books will be on the cart ready for scholars to read. My hope is to promote early reading skills and a love for reading!
