Help me give my students the opportunity to see and love themselves and others through books like My Name Is Maria Isabel, My Name Is Blessing, and many others!
Can't wait to start the year with a new group of kiddos that is ready to join my class. Last year I had the luxury of spending time with the incoming 3rd graders, and so many of them were asking me what 3rd grade is like, others had the special privilege of visiting my classroom. Through these small encounters, I got to know a few of these students and what gets them excited with learning. They truly love non-fiction texts, and love being hands on.
Learning about ourselves!
Is the first unit to start off third grade. As a class we will be exploring our bodies and how we can keep our bodies healthy and strong and different careers that help use do that, as well as learning about ourselves and our Names. Names connects us to our families, our culture, and many times how we see ourselves. Students will explore other cultures, the place of names, and explore their own name and meaning in the process. We will be doing this work with reading My Name is Maria Isabel, My Name is Blessing, My Name is Bilal, and Your Name is a song, so students can see the power in a name, and find the importance of their name. We will also be exploring how to keep our bodies safe, and gathering a stronger understanding of our bodies and germs with books about How Does Soap Clean Your Hands, and the Magic School Bus Human Body.
Through your support, we will have books to help students learn and make connections to stories that embrace many cultures, as well as the non-fiction to build our academic vocabulary and background knowledge. It will help students explore places and concepts through reading!
