This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My wonderful students come from a low socioeconomic neighborhood near Los Angeles. We have been learning virtually since August, and these materials will be essential for my students. They often have many family members living in a small apartment. They do not have access to materials due to the financial burdens of their parents. Many of their parents are working at jobs that earn minimum wage or below. They are not always able to buy them basic school supplies and materials for learning. Many of my students have experienced loss this year due to COVID19, and writing is great therapy for them.

My Project

We are writing our own fairy tales using the literacy skills we have used in our virtual classroom!!

We will write a draft copy, illustrate it using collage techniques inspired by well-known collage artists, and then publish our books.

After they are published we will read our books to the kindergardeners at our school through Zoom.

We have been learning about famous collage artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Man Ray, and Georges Braque. We will incorporate Art into literature by creating a collage to tell our story. Thank you for your support of our project!
