My Students

I am a kindergarten teacher in a low-income, Title 1 school in Houston. I have 15 of the most amazing kindergarteners and have the opportunity to share our project with six other kindergarten classes. I want my students to be fully engaged in learning numbers through hands-on activities.

I want my students to really understand the topics presented to them and the only way I will be able to do this is by making sure my math lessons are hands on.

In order to do this, I need a lot more math resources. I want to make learning meaningful and engage my students in the process. The only obstacle that I have now is finding the resources to do it.

My Project

The resources I am asking for are dinosaur, animal, and insect manipulatives to integrate science into our math lessons, dice, number rings, counting links, number fishing, follow the dot number stamps, and number sequencing puzzles to compliment the basic numbers studies that are the foundation to all our future lessons. My students can manipulate them with their fingers, work in groups or even alone to hone their math skills.

Your help will ensure that these incredible children get an opportunity to enhance their developing mathematical skills.

Manipulation and one to one correspondence are such important skills that will help them in years to come as they learn and grow into successful and contributing members of our society.
