This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to learn and are excited about new topics. They are proud members of a dual language program that allows them to practice Spanish and English in an academic setting. They spend one day with me in the Spanish classroom learning math, reading, writing, literacy skills and social communication in Spanish. The next day they use what they learned in Spanish to build up on the following topic in English. Unlike regular classroom teachers, I have 2 classes, so I have to make sure that ALL students have enough materials, books, to read in class and to take home.

My Project

Growing my library will mean that students will be able to enjoy a variety of books in the classroom and at home. I would love to bring new books, especially non-fiction, into my classroom library, so my kids continue to enjoy their LOVE for reading. I have several fiction books, so students get to take fiction books home most of the time, but when they ask for non-fiction, I have to tell them "no," since there are not enough books in the classroom. They will also be able to complete their homework, reading log, without having to "repeat" books.

I would love for my emergent bilinguals to continue enjoying reading and learning in both languages; hopefully you can help me achieve this goal!
