This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I really love the students I teach. They come from diverse backgrounds which adds to our dual language global community. Many of them love school and always comment on how much they love to learn. I teach 3 classes of 2nd graders in the city of Houston. I teach these 60 students Spanish Reading and Language Arts.

My students are courageous and determined.

Many of them have come to the U.S. recently. Many are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey, but despite their circumstances in life they strive every day to achieve their goals. They know that education is important, because that is what they are taught at home. I strive to provide them with the tools necessary to gain an education. I know many of them lack those resources at home. I am lucky to have them. Their stories inspire me everyday!

My Project

Learning a new language can be tough! That is why having engaging materials is so essential. I love to create an atmosphere where learning is fun. My non-native Spanish speaker are eager to learn Spanish just as much as my native speakers.

These literacy materials will help me engage them so that learning the language is not overwhelming.

They will be a great resource while I teach in one on one small groups or workstations. Many of the materials will help with organization and provide easy access so that students can also work independently.

The donations to this project will help all my students feel accomplished as they become bilingual. I know that learning through engaging materials makes learning achievable. Thank you for providing them with the tools to be successful!
