My Students
My students go to school in a low socio-economic, high poverty area. They are constantly facing many challenges both in school and at home. Despite the circumstances my students face, they are always ready and eager to learn.
My goal with these projects is to provide my students with opportunities and materials that they might not otherwise get.

My Project
Read-alouds are an integral part of the elementary school education. Hearing experienced readers allows the students to have examples of what good reading sounds like. By providing each student with their own copy of the book, they are able to follow along with the story and become invested and familiar with the words.
Wonder is the story of a young boy with facial deformities and his struggles through elementary school.
This book set will not only be used for my 2nd grade class, but will eventually make its way throughout the entire school as a way to prepare the school for the movie. I am hoping that, by reading this story to my class, they will get a better understanding of what it is like to be different and hopefully inspire them to treat everyone around them with kindness. The goal with this project is to have the class and school see examples of empathy and kindness.
