My Students

I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district; my students (special education, general education and gifted students) are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students come to me with many talents and diverse experiences.

My goal is to help all of my students see their potential for learning and to help them grow academically. To achieve this goal, I would like to create a functional environment which meets the learning style of every student in my class. I want to provide a place that is safe, healthy, comfortable to work and learn in that makes each student look forward to coming to class every day.

My Project

The movie and books Wonder and Auggie and Me: Three Wonder Stories by R. J. Palacio are books that focuses on accepting others for who they are.

RJ Palacio's books (Wonder and Auggie and Me) with accessories are a wonderful catalyst towards helping my students become the kind people our world needs more of.

The Wonder pencils, bookmarks, books and movie will be used to help my students see the benefits of not judging others by their appearance and how friendships can come from anywhere if we are just willing to be kind. We will bring about conversations of how to better deal with difficult situations and confrontations. Many of my students are not able to determine the difference between actions or words, being funny, and those that are incredibly cruel. Being able to write down feelings, share feelings and role play can assist my students in relating and accepting someone different than themselves.
