We All Need Fitness

My students need four plyometric boxes and six medicine balls to help learn proper technique in exercise and sports fitness.

My Students

My students have the potential to be great athletes and excel in fitness and sports, however we don't have the proper equipment to help in this endeavor.

My students who will benefit from this project come from both my 8th grade health classes and the students who participate in track and field.

These students are from seventh, eighth and ninth grades, both male and female, from wealthy parents to parents with low economic status, students on the honor roll to special education students struggling in their education. This project will help students across many spectra from the elite athlete, to kids who are just learning about sports and exercise.

My Project

I am requesting two pieces of fitness equipment, different sizes of plyometric boxes and different weighted medicine balls. Students will use the plyometric boxes to try to increase students' heart rates, so they can measure their pulses and accurately determine what their target heart rate is in order to maximize their exercise routines. They will also use the medicine balls to help them improve their core strength which is essential in all sports and exercise. This includes strengthening hips, thighs, and lower abdominal muscles which give them power to run, jump, push, tackle, throw etc. Every exercise and sports activity relies on good core strength to improve their ability in every dimension of sports and fitness.

We read reports that America is getting bigger and more overweight, while physically exercising less.

This should be very concerning to us as parents, teachers, and community. Students need to learn how to fight this ongoing problem. This fitness equipment is obviously not going to solve the problem, but it will help to educate our students to know the importance of good physical fitness. This emphasizes some of the core essentials of fitness that everyone needs. Your help is appreciated.
