My Project

A typical preschool classroom is made up of children 3-5 years old. A child with special needs may be 3 years old according to their birth certificate but developmentally may have the skills of a 1 year old.

Most preschool classrooms have resources that are labeled for 3-5 year olds, but what about those 3 year olds who are developmentally at a 1 year old level?

I would like to add more activities that are geared for 1-2 year olds. Cause and effect toys such as pop up toys, rain sticks, spinners, push and go cars, and shape sorters would be ideal for my learners. Understanding and learning the cause and effect concept is a key early learning concept.

Some students also have sensory needs. In order to regulate their bodies children may need to rock or manipulate resources to help calm themselves. A preschool classroom is full of diverse needs. Classrooms need to meet these individual needs with developmentally appropriate activities so every child can reach their potential.
