Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As the school psychologist, I often see many teachers and observe in their classroom and think of tools they would need in their classroom. As we are in the process of supporting different students, I would love the opportunity to have options that the teachers can try out to support their students sensory needs. Providing items for "sensory buckets" will allow the teachers to grab items when they are in need and have their own sensory bucket for a calm down time in their classrooms. We also can provide different options of flexible seating in my office where I have students or allow the students to take back to their classroom to see if this is something that supports their learning.
Often times teachers need resources and we as the student services team, do not have the means to provide these tools.
Giving them options and tools to support different needs of students will allow the teachers to grow. I will hold all items in my office, allow teachers to check out flexible seating and use them for different opportunities. I will use this during my sessions with the students, show them how it can help and support them. Then allow them to take it to class.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
