This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My class was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This particular group of second graders missed out on 1/3 of a normal kindergarten year, and spent much of first grade online. In addition to missing much academically, they have not been able to experience and learn as many social emotional skills as they would have otherwise. This can make relating to other students hard. They have a hard time putting themselves into others' shoes, so to speak.
The books I have requested will build an inclusive classroom community by allowing them to connect with characters who are different.
Some of these books will have characters that they directly relate to. Other books on my list will help my students better understand those who are very different from them. By exposing them to a variety of cultures and people, they will find that on the inside, we are all the same.
