This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
With twenty students, each with their own individual personality, coming to school every day is truly an adventure!
"I love coming to school, Mrs. T!"
Located in a low-income neighborhood, many of my students love coming to school, getting breakfast and a warm lunch while learning about different things throughout the day. Not only do they get the structure they desire, but they get to interact with their peers while learning SEL skills that they will take with them into adulthood.
My desire is to support my students in all that they do, provide a fun and creative work environment and teach them the skills to be the best possible student they can be.
My Project
Being able to provide my students with different materials to help them be successful in the classroom, is one of the most important aspects when considering a learning environment.
A rug divided into twenty squares allows my students to have their own personal space while sitting together in a group, where at any time you can see us doing math, language arts, science, and social studies.
The classroom rug will help to support my students to learn while having their own personal space. It is very important for my students to have their own spot every day on the floor, and having a rug with designated squares is something that will give structure and trust into the classroom environment.
Not only is it important for students to have the materials they need in order to succeed, but having a classroom with staple teaching materials is a necessity. Having a rug and easel to do shared reads, poems, and morning messages is also an important part of learning as a group. With a mobile easel, my students and I will be able to practice writing activities within the classroom such as sentencing sequence activities, close reads, and out school writing program, Being a Writer.
Having a classroom where students can learn and create is something every teacher should strive for. Having the materials to carry out different learning strategies is an important aspect for every teacher to consider as well. Being able to have items in the classroom that help support and sustain a student's learning is one of the most important things to consider in a classroom environment.
