My Students
"I Am In Preschool: I am not built to sit still, be patient, or keep quiet all of the time. I need motion, novelty, adventure, and to engage the world with my whole body. LET ME PLAY. (Trust me, I am learning.)"
Batavia's Early Childhood Center, housed at Alice Gustafson Elementary, offers open enrollment to all 3-5 year old children in Batavia.
This preschool program uses thematic learning to promote development of pre-academic, communication, and social skills using developmentally appropriate activities.
The preschool students of Batavia's Early Childhood Center have a wide range of strengths, abilities, and individualized needs. They benefit from an enriched learning environment that optimizes opportunities for hands-on learning and movement. When children are able to use total physical response in their learning, they are able to connect language, concepts, and socialization through the meaningful context of thematic learning.
My Project
In our preschool program, motor development is a critical part of the day. We support student growth by promoting self direction within structured and unstructured activities while building motor skills. Every year our curriculum includes units of study that engage children in learning about transportation and community.
We are requesting poly directional arrows to support outdoor and indoor motor activities using scooter boards, bikes and other modes of transportation. We are also requesting floor tape and road signs to develop roads that will provide boundaries and visual directions to create a safe course while moving through space. While building motor skills the children also develop an awareness of environmental signs that are part of Early Literacy Skills.
The requested donation will support the identified learning goals of our Transportation Unit by developing helping students develop safety awareness, self-management, and physical stamina.
