Wax Museum: History Coming Alive!

My students need the "Who is..." series of biographies as they learn more about, and become a person from history, for our classroom's Wax Museum.

My Students

History Coming Alive. That's what the Wax Museum project is all about. Students will have the opportunity to choose a person from history and read about them, learn about them, and essentially "become" them for our classroom's Wax Museum.

I teach 5th & 6th grade gifted students at a High Poverty level school.

My students are always wanting to dig deeper and gain information. They also want to go beyond the surface to truly experience their learning. I believe that these students are the future of our community and deserve every opportunity to stimulate their learning and give them experiences that will make their education meaningful and memorable.

My Project

Students will prepare for the Wax Museum by reading a biography about a person from the past. They will research and essentially "become" this person. Having the set of "Who is..." biographies will allow my students to discover people from the past they have never heard of before. It will also allow them a way to gain information for the Wax Museum. After reading and researching, students will participate in a classroom Wax Museum. Parents, teachers, and other classrooms will visit our Wax Museum as the students pretend to be their person from the past. Dressed like their person, the students will remain frozen in place until someone visits their exhibit. The students will then launch into a first-person account of who they are from the perspective of the famous person from history. Students will truly get to experience history and get to know people from the past. This will allow students a way to make "History Come Alive" and share it with others, too!

I truly believe that my group of gifted students is a valuable part of the next generation.
