Watercolor Paints for School-Home Art Connection

My Students

My Title I school is located in an urban area of Los Angeles. We are a diverse student body that speaks various languages and comes from a wide variety of cultures. Truly, our school is a melting pot centered around academic and social development. My students are fifth graders who come from all corners of the globe.

We are literally the United Nations within one classroom.

My students have varied interests and strengths including writing, acting, gaming, technology, design, and sports. They are intrinsically motivated to grow and work hard to meet academic and social expectations they make for themselves. They are kind individuals, respectful of various viewpoints, and are willing to learn from their mistakes.

My Project

My students need watercolor paints to develop a take-home art kit for every 5th grader. The students at my school are incredibly artistic and love to create. Every week, they participate in our visual art program, sponsored by our parent instructors. They seek to combine visual art with literacy by making book covers for their writing. It is truly amazing to witness the hard work that goes into the program, and exciting to see the children's growth in visual art as they matriculate through our school. Our annual art show is truly spectacular. This project seeks to further develop our 5th graders’ artistic endeavors by requesting a set of watercolor paints for all 5th graders.

Our plan is to send students home with art kits, where they will be able to continue their exploration of art.

Our previous projects ensured we have mixed media sketchbooks for our students, brushes, and charcoal pencils; now we need the colors in order to complete our first round of kits. This project will enable us to send home an art kit with every 5th grader to continue their art at home and incorporate parent involvement in our arts program.
