We are proving the world wrong. We can be scientists, artists, business owners, and authors. When forces push against us, we push back. We may not have funds for field trips but we have imaginations that can take us anywhere!
My school has pulled out of Program Improvement and with the loss of our amazing principal, we are slipping back into the situation we previously pulled out of.
To prove to our children that learning is fun and important, we need supplies to create meaningful learning experiences. California is struggling to provide an equal education for students, and my school is suffering because many of our parents come from difficult situations including being socioeconomically disadvantaged, fleeing a war-torn country, and working to improve the lives of their children. Art and science are proven subjects where meaningful experiences can be made to give our students a chance.
My Project
We want to start with water colors we will be using to paint the symbols of California. Most of our students do not understand how green is made using blue and yellow. Using watercolors with teach us how to experiment with a safe material. With 33 percent of our class being designated language learners, using art methods will give us another instructional and assessment opportunity. My students need watercolor sets, watercolor brushes and an Electricity Activity Tub to ignite a passion for learning. Our students need to see and feel the lesson to comprehend it.
This project is important because I have had the opportunity to research the use of art methods with teaching language learners and it shows to be successful.
This project is one tool to increase their knowledge and comprehension of content.
