My Project
Our school is located in a suburb, but there are hills, pockets of open space, and multiple creeks in the area. Two creeks run along the sides of the school and join at the back, continuing on for miles until emptying into an estuary that is part of the greater San Francisco Bay. Over the years, perching and wading birds, fish, opossums, raccoons, skunks, snakes, salamanders, bats, and river otters have been observed in and around the creeks.
A trail camera with memory card and batteries would give my students the opportunity to see the wildlife that visits the creek that borders our campus.
This technology will help my students become more aware and observant of the native wildlife and ecosystems within suburban neighborhoods. This is the first step in helping them become stewards of creeks and the open spaces that remain.
