Help me give my students a leveled library where they are empowered to choose their own books of interest, at their own level. This will help them further grow in their reading abilities and build confidence.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are inspirational!! They inspire me to teach in ways that will reach each and every one of them on an individual level. They are special students with special needs. They have been identified with Autism as well as for some, Specific Learning Disabilities. My students are intelligent and eager to learn. They can be silly and playful at times. They love to learn new things and show what they already know as well. But most importantly, they love school and I want to make sure that continues!
The things that I can teach and use to make learning fun and meaningful will help my students grow as important, productive members of our school community and society.
Learning for my students must be hands-on. Learning for them must be interesting. Learning for them must be active. Being active participants in their own learning is most important and most beneficial to the development of their minds and bodies. Materials that help us to keep our learning organized is also important. Things that allow for family participation is important as well.
I need your help to make learning the best experience it can be for my students!
My Project
After students have grown in their reading abilities with the help of the teacher and other staff, they take off reading more independently. This is when they need the widest selection of books to choose from. Students need both fictional and non-fictional stories of high interest.
When a library is set up with reading levels clearly marked, students will know where to go to pick a book just right for them.
Picture a room full of students reading books silently or in a whisper voice, giggling and smiling quietly to themselves as they explore the various titles provided by donors like you. Imagine pairs or groups of students discussing a story that they like and asking and answering questions about the text together. When students have a wide variety of enticing titles to choose from, they will thrive and continue to grow in their reading abilities - building great confidence along the way. This will support their growth into being life-long learners.
