My students need leveled books to read in the classroom. Children grow as readers when they are able to read fiction and nonfiction at their reading level.

My Students

I need ALL students to be reading on grade level by the end of the year. The only way to achieve this goal is for all students to read at their level throughout the day. We have an eager group of readers, now they need books.

Sweet, curious, inquisitive young sponges......these three words describe the first grade students in my class.

These children are ready to learn; they are ready to read. My school is very diverse ethnically and socioeconomically. Many students come to school having never opened a book. Many do not have at home that they are able to read. Early literacy skills are essential for success in school and life.

My Project

With leveled books in my classroom, students will be able to practice and independently read at their level. This will boost their confidence and over-all reading ability. We will have independent reading time daily. I will be able to hold reading conferences with students to also improve their thinking about what they are reading. Independent reading will also help the students build stamina with reading so they are able to read longer texts as they grow and develop.

Donations to my project will improve students' overall literacy skills.

Donations will improve student confidence with reading. I cannot even begin to explain the confidence and growth that occurs when a child is given books to read at his/her level. The lives of these first graders will be changed forever!!!
