Help me give my students games, a calming pillow, snacks, and a photo printer ( students see physical evidence of growth); These foster trust, emotional warmth /safety, and lasting memories while building a supportive community through restorative circles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My 10th-grade students are an exceptional group who are navigating a pivotal year of growth and maturity. During our advisory period, or CREW, we focus on building trust, fostering community, and creating a supportive environment where students feel cared for and valued.
This project will ensure our space promotes warmth, emotional safety, and hunger-free learning, giving my students the tools they need to succeed. The weighted pillow will serve as our talking piece during daily restorative circles.
Weighted items have been shown to have calming effects, helping students feel grounded as they take turns sharing their thoughts and feelings. Our current pillow is worn out, and replacing it with a new one will restore its ability to provide comfort and emotional warmth to the group. This small but meaningful addition will reinforce a sense of safety and care within our community.
The snacks will prevent hunger from interfering with our conversations and activities, ensuring students feel nourished and ready to engage. Sharing food fosters a sense of belonging and shows care in a way that resonates deeply with my students. The games will help us build collaboration and connection while adding moments of joy to our CREW sessions. These materials will encourage social interaction, teamwork, and problem-solving, all while strengthening bonds.
Finally, the photo printer will allow us to create personalized photo books for each student, capturing their milestones and growth. Many students lack access to physical photos, and this project will give them a tangible way to celebrate their achievements. These materials will help us build a community rooted in care, connection, and celebration.
