My Students
My Students are a group of awesome 3rd grade students whom I call my “Thinkers and Learners.” They are always eager to research, learn, and share. The majority of the students attending the school come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
What makes my students special is their eagerness to persevere to succeed.
Our school is a Title 1 school where students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are keeping them fueled with healthy foods for healthy minds.
My courageous 3rd grade students are always ready to reach new goals! In fact, they set two major learning goals to accomplish. The first is to score 85 percent or higher in all subject areas. The second goal is to prepare to be "College and Career Ready".
My Project
At my school, we have many students with various needs. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. The concerns that my students are faced with is when they come to school late, they miss out on breakfast. Another concern is that our lunch is at 12:10 in the afternoon. We have experienced having a shortage of food because our class is the very last class to have lunch. When there is a shortage in food, students end up with a lunch choice they did not want or perhaps something they can’t eat due to allergies.
Having a healthy snack and juice available will help relieve students of hunger pains due to lack of breakfast or a delay in lunch.
In the past, I have managed to budget for snacks but they don’t tend to last very long. Unfortunately, the financial expenses needed to keep supplies on hand is not consistent.
The peppermint and calming fragrance is greatly needed to help students stay focused in class. For the past few years, I have maintained a supply of peppermint gum and candy for my students to nibble and chew on throughout the day. The peppermint fragrance I use aids in keeping our classroom environment calm and inviting.
This project will warm the hearts of my students when they find out how much others care enough to provide healthy snacks to tame their hunger and keep their minds focused. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
