Help me give my students healthy snack items, the opportunity to earn gift cards along with warm scarves and items to use in our kitchen while preparing food.
My students come from a diverse array of cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds. They are pregnant or parenting teens who want to finish their education and learn how to be wonderful parents.
I want my students to gather the skills and resources necessary to be successful as a parent, a student as well as an active member of our community.
Teens with adult responsibilities need support and understanding to have success in school. We offer a calm atmosphere where the student can bring their child and learn the skills to be job market-ready or be prepared to further their education.
A parenting teen does not understand how their schedule will change and they need a class schedule that can work with their parenting schedule. Through the chaos of new parenthood, I want to support my students to prepare them for life after high school.
My Project
My students are learning how to take care of themselves while also learning to take care of their child. They need the tools and resources to help them feel successful as they navigate the world of being a student, caring for themselves and also being a parent.
Most of my students need to feel warm, fed, and rested in order to have the energy needed to take care of their own children.
My classroom offers a safe space as well as resources to help the students on this journey.
The gift cards to Bath and Body Works will be used as an incentive when students complete their Unit Projects and presentations. Having a reward helps the students achieve their goals while learning how to care for themselves and their children.
Having scarves available is helpful on those chilly days when students left their homes in a hurry to get to school. Snacks, as well as storage items, allow students to take what they need between classes. We are constantly in need of basic supplies to help students.
