Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and they are a mixture of Hispanic and African American students. They are also students who have special needs.
Parents do their best to provide the bare essentials that their kids need throughout the school year. Many times, that is all that they can give them.
Many of the families have at least four kids in the school. Due to the current circumstances, it is a lot to ask a family to purchase materials when some of them most likely may have lost their jobs. Although the parents and the school community do their best to provide for the children, with the fear of what the future may bring, and the loss of jobs it will be harder to provide them with tools for learning.
My Project
As the weather changes, my students will need hats and gloves to keep them from getting sick.
Many of my students walk to school and lack proper winter clothing to keep them warm.
My students lack the proper winter attire because most families have suffered from a loss of income. This has been a direct result of Covid. I have more students than usual that lack proper winter attire. Providing my students with hats and gloves will enhance their opportunity to attend school. It is imperative that they are at school as much as possible. Most of my students are very much behind academically because of Covid.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
