FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Katy's classroom raised $2,713

Harlem's Best Youth Track Team is housed at P.S 46M, a school in which 94.5% of its students qualify for the free lunch program. In an overcrowded school with limited resources for physical education, the P.S. 46 Jaguars Track Team is a venue where students can exhibit their true talents and successes in running.
After starting the team through the NYRR Foundation and graciously accepting the gift of thirty gold uniforms from Donors Choose, I've coached the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders at PS 46 to two annual city-wide second place team victories. Competing against clubs and schools in all five boroughs of New York City, the boys and girls relay teams qualified to compete at Madison Square Garden's famous Millrose Games in 2006. The girls finished in third place overall and the boys finished in second place.
Many of the children on the track team have true talent in running and will hopefully go on to compete at the high school and college levels. They are not only taught good running form and how to win individual events and relay races. The runners on the track team are explicitly taught life skills such as tenacity, focus, team work, sportsmanship, perseverance in their academic studies, good attendance, and goal setting at every practice.
Once a child demonstrates these life skills at a practice or track meet, he or she will receive a warm-up suit. Eventually all of the runners on the team will earn a suit. The warm-up suits will provide the runners with more self-confidence and team dignity. In addition, they will provide those students who lack resources to buy their own running clothes, or who consistently run in jeans, more efficient clothing to practice in. As well, the suits will allow for protection from the rain, wind, and cold. I am requesting a donation of twenty-five suits.
Thank you very much.
