Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a School Social Worker in the heart of the South Bronx seeking funding for reusable heating pads for my female students to ease their monthly cramps.
My female students are entering their teenage years with many of them getting their monthly periods for the first time and as a school we are unable to dispense medicine to help them relieve the cramps that typically happen during this week.
I am a school social worker, and girls come to my office seeking relief and I feel sympathetic yet helpless in their moment of pain. I offer hygiene packs that don't include any form of pain relief which they are grateful for yet still beg for pain relief. Sometimes students are even picked up from school by a parent, causing them to miss academic instruction. Having a supply of heating pads with disposable covers to maintain hygiene will provide these girls some physical pain relief.
