This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten to some of the hardest working 5- and 6-year-olds around! They love to learn and get their hands dirty. My students live in an extremely low-income area which often limits their exposure to life experiences. Because of this, I try to bring as many real-life discoveries into our classroom that I can. My students take on every challenge head-on and would love to have a science-based classroom!
My students work really hard to achieve our classroom goals, I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.
That includes having the resources they need to keep them warm and happy at school!
My Project
My students and I would like to be able to give gloves to every student in our school. As the weather is getting colder, I am noticing that more and more kids are coming to school without the proper clothes to keep them warm. We previously had a project funded in which my class received gloves and hand warmers to keep them warm. Students from every grade level have come to me for hand warmers and I have been passing them out every day, all over the school. The hand warmers have been a lifesaver as many students come to school early and stay late without coats or gloves.
I would like to be able to share gloves and hand warmers with every student in our school, so no student has to be cold at school.
My hope is that every student is warm and well taken care of. I believe that by having gloves for every student, they will have their basic needs met. They won't need to feel embarrassed for not having things they need. Also, they will be ready to learn in class as they are not using all of their energy to keep warm!
