Can you imagine trying to teach evaporation and filtering with no way to heat water?
My students are fifth through eighth graders in a small, rural Appalachian community.
There are 85 wonderful, interested students in these four classes. Science standards are very rigid in my school and they need the opportunity to work with actual equipment.
My Project
These students are active and interested in science. They haven't had many opportunities to experience laboratory experiments and obviously lack even basic equipment. I took over this class this fall and we've been busy buying as many materials as we can.
My students need this basic equipment so that they can perform basic lab skills in chemistry and physics.
We currently only have one hot plate, which is not nearly enough to use for a class of 25! We desperately need your help to get our last "major" item to get our classroom set up as a true lab science room!
More than half of students from low‑income households
