Warm Hooded Sweatshirts Keep Us Cozy and Comfortable in Winter

Help me give my students zip-up hooded sweatshirts they can wear with their uniforms to keep them warm and comfortable when the weather is cold.

My Project

My students come from a low-income/high-poverty area and are very diverse, both in race and socioeconomic status. One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. Many have experienced trauma and have some tough home lives, but that doesn't bring them down. They come to school every day and are very eager to learn.

Even with all their struggles, my students work very hard and take great pride when they accomplish a tough lesson.

They are enthusiastic about learning and excited to explore new learning opportunities every day!

This school year, my scholars have faced unprecedented challenges as they learn to navigate a whole new world due to COVID-19. This school year has looked much different for them than a typical school year in the past.

At a young age, my scholars are learning to manage their time wisely, set and keep a schedule, keep track of assignments and deadlines, and navigate complex computer systems. They are doing all of these things with resilience, patience, and a positive attitude!

It can be hard for scholars to focus on learning when they are chilly. Our scholars wear uniforms, and one uniform option is to wear a long-sleeved collared shirt or a sweatshirt/hoodie. Many scholars choose to wear the sweatshirts or hoodies in the winter to keep warm. However, not all of my scholars are able to provide hoodies on their own. For this reason, I have requested warm, zip-up fleece hoodies in a variety of sizes. These will provide my scholars who don't have a warm sweater to wear with an option that will keep them warm during our cold Midwestern winters. In addition, we will personalize these hoodies with scholars' names to help create a unified classroom community and help students feel like a part of our team.
