This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an urban high school that has a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. We have serious attendance problems and many students who are not engaged in learning.

I have taught here for eighteen years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified, artistic experiences as I can.

In our present situation of teaching with a hybrid model, all of my students are working with an art program on their laptops. This is challenging for everyone and has changed our way of learning.

My Project

We are a school operating on a hybrid learning model during Covid. There are some students coming into the building who do not have transportation available to them. Students have arrived at school freezing cold on the rough winter days we are experiencing, and will be for a few more months. That is no way to start a school day and focus in classes. The hats and gloves would be given to students who arrive at school in need of winter accessories. Having these items will help to keep students warm and comfortable. They will also motivate them to get to school on these cold days ready for a day of learning.
