In Chicago, some students are unable to enjoy playing outside in their neighborhood due to gun violence in the summer and in the fall winter the temperatures become too low. Some students' only time outside is during school recess. With Chicago winters being so brutal, students are left with very limited time for outdoor recess.
Once temperatures drop below 40 degrees my students are unable to enjoy outside recess.
In order to go outside when the temperatures are near 40 degrees, the students must have a hat, scarf, and gloves or they are not allowed to play outside.
Help all my students always have the winter supplies they need to attend recess. Recess is such an important part of learning for kindergarteners. Research shows they need gross motor skill practice as well as unorganized play with classmates to learn social skills.
