This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is comprised of 22 inquisitive, enthusiastic, and compassionate 6 and 7 year olds. We are a very linguistically diverse classroom, with many LEP (Limited English Proficient) students. All and all, they really are just the sweetest bunch who are deserving of so much! We spend our mornings reading, whether it be shared, independently or at a literacy station. Our afternoons are spent writing and exploring math. Our classroom is warm, welcoming, and very print friendly. The students take pride in our classroom, and it shows! Our school serves students in grades K-4 in a low-income, high poverty district.

My Project

The use of a listening center is a daily activity in my classroom. In fact, it’s one of the most sought after centers by students. They can’t get enough of it! Unfortunately, at the present time, we only have a CD player and seven books with CDs. Yes, seven books to circulate for the entire school year. In addition, CD player issues often arise, and I’m forced to interrupt small group instruction to help out my kiddos in need. What I hope to create is a cozy listening center with up-to-date technology. I’ve already personally purchased the rug, the QR codes, and the totes to hold each of the five tablets. We just need the chairs, pillows, and the tablets to finish the project!

By donating to our project, you will help improve our literacy block and ultimately increase academic achievement.

Students will be able to quickly gather the necessary materials (tablet, headphones and a QR code) and find a cozy area to listen to a book. Having this updated technology will increase their literacy and their desire to learn.
