Warby Parker Eye Glasses for Low Income Students

My Students

Seeing is believing. Several of my students can't learn to their potential because they struggle to simply see the board. No child's education should suffer due to an inability to see properly.

In many ways the students in our public school in Harlem are no different than children all across the country.

They have dreams. They have ambitions. They have goals. Yet, the vast majority of my students were born into life circumstances that would bring many of us to our knees. Most live at or below the poverty level. Many cannot afford proper nutrition or school supplies. Most do not have access to proper medical care. My students work hard and they deserve a level playing field in life.

My Project

The eye exams and glasses will allow those students who struggle with reading the board with the ability to see clearly and thereby learn to their potential. After an initial pre-screening, many students revealed that they hadn't realized that they saw less clearly than others. Others offered that they once had eye glasses but that their family could not afford an updated pair with the proper prescription. Still others shared that their family did not have proper eye-care insurance and therefore had not visited an eye doctor in many years.

My students deserve the basic ability to see the written instruction in their classrooms.

They have intellect; they have determination. They are willing to work hard. They simply ask to be able to SEE clearly. Please help me bring this basic human right to my wonderful students.
