My students come to middle school already falling behind. Most are reading below grade level and have just barely made it to their current grade. My goal is to make academic progress. That could be reading on grade level or just improving one level, I want them to feel successful in their learning.
My students are the absolute best.
They come to me with full hearts and stories that make me laugh even on the most challenging days. They are extremely up to date on popular culture, technology, and music but they also lack a lot of the core reading skills and basic background knowledge that their age group is expected to have. Most are living in extremely urban environments with a lack of resources and economic instability.
They also face more adversity in their young lives than many people face in a lifetime. My school caters to middle school students who have not succeeded in traditional school environments previously. My school provides them with family advocates, small class sizes, and social-emotional support to help them succeed. We try to help them gain success and safety in school, helping them to become kind, productive individuals in the future. My students are incredibly special and I believe that they deserve opportunities in their lives.
My Project
The document camera will help tremendously in my classroom. It will help me model learning activities, behavior expectations, agendas, everything! My students need visual reminders of everything and being able to display documents and 3D objects on my SMARTboard will definitely positively influence my instruction. It will decrease the auditory instruction and help my visual learners who often get distracted in class.
The area rug will help my students feel more comfortable in class. My classroom currently has a small, old rug where we sit around but it is not comfy or cozy in the slightest. I want a rug that students can sit around, read on, and feel safe. Not to mention that it will add color to my classroom!
The area rug gripper will help keep my rug in its specific spot, make sure it stays in tact and safe. It will also increase its age and ensure that I can use it in my classroom for years to come.
This project has the ability to dramatically improve my classroom and the learning in it.
A bright rug can easily make a classroom look more inviting, safe, and cozy. My students deserve a space that they feel comfortable in. A document camera will help put their learning on full blast, their work on view for everyone to see. When my students experience academic success, it's everything. I think this project can put them a few steps closer to that shining moment.
