Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How many languages did you learn in elementary school? My students are currently learning how to read, write, and speak in English and Spanish in the Dual Language Immersion program.

Between my two classes, I have over 40 students who spend half of their day with me learning in English and they spend the other half of the day in Spanish.

In class, diversity is something that is valued. The students are engulfed in many different cultures and learn to understand and respect other ways of life. My students come from various parts of the world and a majority of them are learning English as a second language. Our school is a Title I school, which means many of the students come from low-income living situations. Over 90% of our school is on free or reduced lunch. However, these students don't let their background hold them back. They have a thirst for knowledge and want to make a better future for themselves.

My Project

Technology is something our students don't have access to on a regular basis. Therefore, I want to give students more opportunities to expand their learning through apps and other programs on an iPad. Also, many of the supplies that I am requesting are items that we will use every day or every week in various capacities. For example, the manipulatives will help the students gain a deeper understanding of math concepts and provide hand-on experiences.

This project will help students be giving them more access to a variety of learning experiences and enables them to learn in a variety of different ways.

Also, this project gives students the materials to complete projects and classroom assignments.
